 Welcome to the NESfan(.com) Archive!
Saturday, September 5, 2009 - 11:00 p.m. - Joey Connelly aka, "JoAnkhamun"

What you will find here is the complete version of NESfan.com -- a site dedicated to the Nintendo Entertainment System -- as it was when it was taken down and closed on April 4, 2001. While the site didn't survive as long as I had hoped it would, I built and maintained it with a lot of love, and to this day, it remains a shining point in my lengthy Internet "career".

Like so many other old-tyme gamers, the NES has always held a very special place in my heart, and I hope that we -- the NESfan staff and myself -- managed to get that across with the work we published on NESfan. Looking back at the site as a whole, so many years after it closed, I dare say that we succeeded in expressing our affection for Nintendo's wonderful 8-bit system.

Unfortunately, I made the poor decision to let the NESfan.com domain name lapse, and it was purchased long ago by a company who excels on "squatting" domain names. So, don't even bother visiting that URL, as it will only take you to a generic search page that has nothing to do with the NES or this site. NESfan.TheJadedGamer.net is the CORRECT address to use.

So, here it is...the official -- and complete -- NESfan, brought back after a great many years from the depths of my hard drive. Well, except for many, many pages of front page posts -- which I apparently didn't have the foresight to preserve.

I hope you enjoy your visit here, and remember, just because the games look and sound simplistic, that doesn't mean they're no longer any good. The NES was a true powerhouse, with some of the greatest games ever created; games that are as fun to play now as they were back in the 80's.

Game on!

Time To Start Selling Apples On The Street Corner...
Thursday, March 29, 2001 - 4:10 a.m. - JoAnkhamun
As I've discussed on the Message Forums a few times in the past, things haven't been going very well as of late for websites on the internet (especially the big network sites). The bottom fell out of the ad banner game a looong time ago (it appears that nobody clicks on them anymore to help support the sites they like *gasp*), and those of us who have to foot the bills for our websites have really been feeling the pinch lately. Sites are dropping like flies, and now I'm afraid that it's starting to hit close to home. First, there was the sad news that the great Mame.dk was closing shop due to the faltering eFront enterprise, and now ezPolls.com (the providor of the NESfan.com web polls) has decided to discontinue their free services. So while this hardly puts an end to having polls (there are still quite a few other resources available), it's still quite sad due to the fact that the ezPolls-MyComputer free web services were quite useful for the financially challenged webmaster.

Anyways, the old polls have been archived, and a new poll is now up. So do yer duty, and go "rock the vote"!

Oh yeah, and visit an advertiser while your at it. :-P

 Thank You, Drive Thru

Heads up MMORPG fans (that's "Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game" for those of you who aren't in the know), a spoof of Ultima Online and EverQuest that centers around "Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers" has been made Flash-style. Complete with "k3wl D3wd l33t sp34k", those of you who have spent some time with either of these MMORPG's (especially UO) will probably get a kick out of it.

 Super Mario Bros. Medley
Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 4:45 a.m. - JoAnkhamun
Recently, Chrono told me about a hilarious version of the Super Mario Bros. theme by the Dave Matthews Band. After scouring the net for more info on this tomfoolery, I discovered the following at Nancies.org (a Dave Matthews Band fansite):

"A few alert Napster subscribers have found that people have been posting several MP3s as DMB's new single, "I Did It." Sure enough, we checked it out first-hand, and the results are rather funny. The main culprit is a file being distributed as "Dave Matthews Band + Francois Rollin - I Did It." You download it, and it's actually a (very) poorly-done spoof of the original NES Super Mario Brothers theme song. A quick check of Amazon.com reveals no mention of an artist named Francois Rollin."

Although described as the SMB theme, it's much more than that. It's actually a medley of the Overworld, Underworld, Under Water, and Castle themes, and....it's damn funny. While I never could find out who created it (I seriously doubt that the DMB "did it"), whoever they are, they did a good job. You can check it out in all its hilarious glory on the 'Miscellaneous' page.

 The Silence Is Broken
Monday, March 12, 2001 - 11:10 p.m. - JoAnkhamun
Although I have always tried to remain nothing more than a reclusive dictator, tucked safely away in the NESfan.com mansion, every now and then someone will make me an offer I can't refuse and I have to emerge from my shroud of silence. This time the offer was made by "The Almighty Narf", for an interview of yours truly. While at first I scoffed at his pitiful offer of $8,400 and a book of food stamps, once he threw in a complete copy of "Color a Dinosaur", I was sold.

So don't delay, and head on over to the 'We Want the NES Back Foundation' to read all of the lurid details concerning my childhood in war-torn Beirut, my rise to social and political prominence in the former Soviet Union, and the chain of events that led me to start-up NESfan.com
